The art of getting what we want from AI

A prompt engineering workshop for designers

Why now?

Most AI models we interact with today live behind a chat interface, so knowing how to talk to them is the difference between a mediocre, sloppy result and getting exactly what we had in mind.

AI slop is everywhere, and it looks that way for a reason: LLMs generate by always reaching for the most probable next element, which is the opposite of how we humans usually create.

The result is that generic, uncannily weird look we all recognize. But AI is also the medium of our moment, and designers who want to use these wild new models to make work that is truly individual will find that prompt engineering is about to be the most in-demand skill there is.

What we’ll learn

❋ The basics of how an LLM creates

Understand how these models think, one probable step at a time, and use that knowledge to push them toward the unexpected.

❋ Prompts that help us be more creative

Explore prompts that help us (and it) be more creative, nurturing our own unique creative methods so our results won’t look like others’.

❋ Using AI's unpredictability to our advantage

Techniques for leaning into unpredictability and randomness to steer the AI toward fresh, expressive work.

❋ Claude skills for advanced design work

Build a skill or agent that critiques and continuously improves what we generate, pushing it in new directions.
