Hometalk: the world’s largest DIY community

Overview

Hometalk is the world's largest online DIY community, with over 16 million members worldwide. Members post tutorials that help others to fix, build, create and decorate their own homes without bringing in a pro to do it. As creative director at the company, I grew and managed a small team of product designers and content editors.

DIY categories

When our data showed users weren’t easily able to find what they were looking for, we consulted with community members and SEO experts to re-categorize content tagging and navigation for over 1 million DIY tutorials. The new categories used verbs, questions, and rooms that matched the needs of real use cases, leading to more content views and successful searches.

Community events with DIYers

With thriving local communities around the US, our team often got Hometalkers together to hang out, craft, chat, give feedback, and help us build.
